Researcher II

 

Position Description: The Illinois Clean Coal Institute, based in Carterville, Illinois, provides technical management services for the State’s coal research and development (R&D) program.  The R&D program includes technology demonstrations and industrial coal utilization efforts.  As a Program Manager, you will be responsible for playing a key role in setting the R&D priorities for funding by the Institute, with an emphasis on the areas of coal gasification, coal combustion and its related downstream processes.  Duties include:

 

 

Due to the nature of this position, excellent proficiency in English communication skills, both written and oral is mandatory. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

B.S. degree in an engineering or other science discipline, plus commensurate experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

A Ph.D or a Master’s degree in chemical, mechanical or combustion engineering with significant hands-on, industrial experience.

 

The ideal candidate will have both laboratory and industrial experience in the following areas:

 

Preference will be given to candidates with industrial and/or pilot scale gasification/combustion experience.  Additional experience in the areas of syngas utilization (e.g. the production of chemicals and/or liquid fuels (Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis)) and/or carbon management will be a plus.  Knowledge of intergovernmental operations, and a general understanding of all phases of coal research will be an advantage. 

 

Salary and Application:

The starting salary range for this position is $55,000 - $85,000 and will be commensurate with the candidate’s degree and experience.  Applications will be accepted through July 7, 2008, or until this position is filled.
